Worldwide, around 50 million people have Alzheimer’s or a related dementia, and there are nearly 10 million new cases every year. These worrying facts make it a public health priority as recently stated by the World Health Organisation.
“Maratona Alzheimer” is a marathon dedicated to Alzheimer’s disease. It is the first to trace its route among Romagna’s hilly and maritime landscapes and the first event of the territory proposing distances that are suitable to any preparation level and promoting physical training both as prevention and as an instrument of social integration.
“Maratona Alzheimer” represents a key moment in order to spread awareness among the community and to gather funds for “Fondo Alzheimer 360°”, committed to assistance, prevention and research against Alzheimer’s disease.
Organised by the association “Amici di Casa Insieme”, with the technical support of Asd “Maratona Alzheimer”, the event has reached its 7th edition.
The programme includes: the Marathon, starting from Mercato Saraceno; a 30-km race, starting from Borello and a 21-km race, starting from Cesena; in addition to the “Marcia Alzheimer” and other non-competitive walks. All competitions and walks end in Cesenatico, at Parco di Levante.
The marathon is part of the Italian Athletics Federation’s calendar.
