The Ironman Triathlon is the most well-known endurance event in the world, and one of the most challenging one-day sporting events. This triathlon competition organised by the World Triathlon Corporation, is made up of a 2.4-mile (3.86 km) swim, a 112-mile (180.25 km) bike ride and a 26.2-mile (42.20 km) run which requires to be completed in 17 hours in order for an athlete to be considered a finisher.
Ironman Italy Emilia-Romagna is the first ever full-distance Ironman event in Italy.
The town of Cervia, on the coast of Romagna— was chosen as the ideal destination for the first made in Italy IRONMAN edition, in view of the perfect combination of natural beauty, art and food and the vocation for sport and wellness culture of this region—the Wellness Valley.
The 2017 edition attracted 2,500 athletes from 71 countries and about 40,000 visitors attended the event in Cervia.
The organization involved 6 municipalities in Romagna (Cervia, Bertinoro, Cesena, Forlì, Forlimpopoli, Ravenna) and 1,600 volunteers who enthusiastically supported the event.
Ironman Italy Emilia-Romagna 2017 was recognised as “the best 2017 Triathlon event” in Italy.
Following the success of its debut edition, the 6 municipalities of Romagna have decided to network by creating a new tourist product, “The Lands of Thriathlon”, in order to work together to promote the many opportunities which the territory offers in terms of sport, nature, culture, wine and gastronomy, relax and well-being.
